Service · Vehicle lockout assistance
Car lockout assistance when your keys are inside.
Lockout assistance is a driver coming to the vehicle to help regain entry when the keys are locked inside. Roūte prices the request before dispatch. You must be able to show that you are authorised to access the vehicle.
How lockout assistance works
Lockouts happen in ordinary ways — keys left on the seat, a fob locked in the trunk, or a keyless car locking itself while the fob is inside. The vehicle is fine; you simply cannot get to it.
A roadside lockout response focuses on regaining entry to a vehicle you are authorised to access, using methods appropriate to that vehicle. Because this is a security-sensitive service, proof of authorisation is always required before any attempt is made.
Lockout assistance is not key cutting or key programming. If the key is lost, broken, or its electronics have failed, an automotive locksmith or a dealer has to produce and pair a new key — that work cannot be done as a roadside call.
Emergencies come first. If there is a crash, injury, fire, or you are stopped somewhere unsafe in live traffic, call 911 before requesting roadside assistance.
When to request lockout assistance
- The keys or fob are visibly inside a locked vehicle.
- A keyless vehicle locked itself with the fob inside.
- The fob is locked in the trunk and there is no interior release.
- You have proof of ownership or a rental agreement available.
- The vehicle is parked safely and nobody is inside it.
How Roūte works
- 01
Tell us what happened
Pick the service you need and describe the vehicle so the right driver and equipment are matched to the job.
- 02
Confirm location and price
Drop the pin on the vehicle, review the estimate Roūte calculates for that request, and approve it before anything is dispatched.
- 03
Track the driver in
Once a driver accepts, follow their progress on the map and share a live tracking link with someone else if you want.
What to include in your request
- Photo ID plus registration, rental agreement, or another reasonable proof of authorisation.
- Vehicle year, make, model, and colour.
- Where the keys are — cabin, trunk, or unknown.
- The precise parking spot, including garage level or hotel entrance.
- Whether the vehicle has an alarm or aftermarket security system.
What to expect
Authorisation is mandatory
A driver will not attempt entry to a vehicle you cannot show you are entitled to access.
No key cutting or programming
Lost, broken, or electronically failed keys require an automotive locksmith or dealer.
Never a locked-in child or pet
Call 911 immediately. A person or animal in a hot vehicle is an emergency, not a roadside request.
Some vehicles cannot be opened roadside
Certain designs and security systems make roadside entry impractical, in which case a locksmith or dealer is the route.
Pricing
Roūte shows the estimate for your specific request before you confirm it — nothing is dispatched until you approve the price. Amounts vary with the service, the vehicle location and distance, and the responding provider, so the live app is always the source of truth rather than a figure published here. There is no annual membership to buy.
Availability
Roūte is launching in the Orlando, Florida area with an initial focus on International Drive and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Availability at any moment depends on how many drivers are online nearby, so enter your pickup location in the app to see whether a driver can be matched to your request right now.
