Car breakdowns on International Drive

The corridor, and why location detail matters

International Drive runs roughly ten miles from the Orange County Convention Center area, past ICON Park and the entertainment strip, up towards Universal Orlando. Along the way it intersects Sand Lake Road, Kirkman Road, and Universal Boulevard, and connects to I-4 and SR 528.

Telling a provider 'I'm on I-Drive' narrows almost nothing. Give the hotel or attraction name, whether you are north or south of Sand Lake Road, the garage level if you are in one, and the nearest cross street.

Most common problems in this corridor

• Flat batteries in resort garages after a rental sits for several days.
• Lockouts while loading bags or strollers at hotel entrances.
• Flats from construction debris near the I-4 interchange and ongoing roadworks.
• Kerbed sidewalls on tight garage ramps and valet lanes.
• Empty tanks — long stretches of the corridor have no fuel station.

If the car stops in a traffic lane

• Hazards on immediately.
• If it can still roll, get it into a lot, a side street, or a hotel entrance rather than stopping in the lane.
• If it cannot move and you are blocking traffic, call 911 — this is a hazard, not just an inconvenience.
• Do not stand in the roadway attempting to direct traffic around the vehicle.

If you are on I-4 or SR 528 instead

Expressway rules are different. Get fully onto the right shoulder, keep everyone belted inside the vehicle, and note the mile marker, exit number, and your direction of travel — shoulders cannot be crossed, so a driver needs to know which side you are on. Call 911 if your position is unsafe.
